This Halloween I focused my costume making energy on Maggie. Last year she was a ghost using a sheet with eye holes cut out. She loves the classic coustumes and for good reason, when done right they just work. So this year after watching Monster Squad I proposed that she stick with the sheet theme and I make her into a mummy.

Using casting wrap that goes on wet, drys and then is baked to become firm we build the mask, chest, arms and legs on to her body. and covered the rest with strips of torn sheets.

She won the prize for best individual costume.

Me I wanted to be a cultural icon.

Sundance '09

Maggie and I just concluded year II of working as fleet drivers for Sundance. We were both assigned to airport duty the first few days, which means we set up shop at the Sundance kiosk in terminal 2 and assumed the paramount responsibilities of 1. greeting VIP's as they arrived 2. assisting them to their vehicle 3. usually with an inordinate amount of luggage in tote. This may sound simple but trust me when all planes touch down at the same time - which they do - and there are over 30 people to be greeted at once, the airport quickly morphs into a scene from this year's nominated best dramedy. Add a few self-deficient celebrities and a handful of paparazzi to the mix and you have a reel worth blogging about.

Enter cast:

This year the paparazzi was thick and hot on our trail. We were constantly dodging the fire of ultra zoom lenses and intrusive questions as, "will you sign this for me???" and "who are you dating anyway?" Lucky for us we managed to remain fairly hidden behind various obstacles throughout the terminal.

About a week before Halloween I was still not sold on what I was going to be so I googled "best costume ever" and this came up...

It would have been perfect had I been two....

Then out of nowhere it hit me.....

Best moment was when I was at a Party and a guy asked if I had any magic tricks and at that moment I said, "Did some buddy say, MAGIC!" and I shot confetti from my wrists that I had rigged with party poppers and he said... "It's a Halloween miracle".

Easter Bunny of April Fool's

So we get one day a year where we get to lie, cheat, and steal all in the name of St. Aprilfool. I take these 24hours as seriously and if it goes all wrong at the end of the day... at least I died trying.

Where to start...

On my way home from the gym March 31, I stopped by my friend's car and put a yellow envelope on it that is used by the city for parking tickets. In the envelope I placed a old school awards ribbon that simply said Terrific. I new she would get it first thing in the morning on her way to work and I was pleased with myself.

I looked at my clock and saw that I had thirty minutes until midnight and the turn of March to April. I raced home and started typing on my computer. I created a perfect fake facebook email conversation between a friend and I about Maggie and how she would try to kiss me in when we lived in Hawaii. I sent it to Maggie and planted it perfectly. . . Hook Line and Sinker. I wont go into details because it took a lot of work to build it all up to where Maggie was texting comments like "What!? this is so crazy, I never tried to kiss you!, This is nuts."... yep.

Then I down loaded a bunch of sound effects of phones ringing, had a friend called my friend Danielle and tell her I finally got pulled over and needed my wallet to get out of jail. It was 2am and I do have a warrant for a speeding ticket. She came, never thing for a moment that it was a joke. She found me in my room and we had a good laugh, she was a great sport about it.

First thing in the morning I checked my email and found a calender of events sent to me from THE GREAT KERN COUNTY FAIR, I noticed that the email allowed me to edit what had been sent so I wrote RADIOHEAD would be coming to the fairgrounds with Josh Groben... I really enjoyed the irony so I send out the new info to anyone who I thought would know who radiohead was.

That afternoon (April-1) I was on my way to pick up a gorilla suit when I saw a for rent sign in a yard of a house. This gave me an idea, I turned around and when back to my house and in the shed in our back yard was a "For Rent" sign I remembered seeing.

So I printed up a sign to put on the for rent sign:

Brian and I then put the sign up in Shane's yard and another on his door. This is really funny in Provo where COED housing does not exist. I had people call him all day asking about it. He was so confused, he had no idea. All this when he was trying to trick me with texts that said. "oh man have you seen your bumper?".

He stopped by my house on the way home after work at six so the sign was up for most of the day. We followed him home and got a lot of his reaction of video, she just stood there reading so confused. Then he just started to laugh so hard.

Then it was gorilla time I rented a costume for the day and first went to Amanda's house and she was the only one home. I went in and found her fridge and started rummaging in true gorilla fashion she walked in to see what was going on and. . . it was beautiful, it really gave her a fright.

Then it was off to the bike trial where I sat on top of the pull up bars holding a sing that said Happy April Fool's Day and when people passed they would jump back, read the sign and laugh. Then we went all around town surprising people spreading April Fool's Joy. I was April Fools equivalent to the Easter Bunny or St. Patty's Leprechaun.

When I got home Sam's (my roommate) brother came into his room to grab something. I threw the suit back on and went and got into the back seat of his car. When he came he opened the door and simply said in a very sincere voice, I'm scared.

Next Brian my roommate got home and Danielle came over with a video camera and we jumped in his truck with who ever was the gorilla riding in back. We would pull up to people walking and ask, "do you know where a zoo is in provo?" right then the gorilla would jump up yelling. Oh man this and similar gorilla tricks when on for the next few hours, lot of the time running down the street tapping on car windows at stop lights.

That night I went to Kerianne Dyer's home and sneaked up to her roommates room and hid behind her closet door. Yeah, you can imagine what happened when she walked into her room. She flipped on the light and she was standing with her back to me and so I stepped closer and grunted. Yikes, she was petrified. SHE LOVED IT. Then I took a couple of girls in the ward around to all the guys in our ward homes. We learned no one locks up at night. The gorilla would some times walk in and go to the fridge and grab a bite or go in on a rampage. We made most of people laugh, the rest really confused.

When I got home I looked at the time and just when I thought I was safe. . . Maggie had a surprise visitor come to my house, I answered the door and an innocent looking girl held out a piece of paper with my name on it and ask if that was me, I said it was and in the other hand she held a pie... and pow... right in the kisser. My mouth still tastes like banana cream. You see it was not yet 12am in California.

.. I guess you can trick a trickster.

Note:

So I have only spent two sessions of my life on this blog. Once for documenting my room renovations and once to add a couple poems and stuff. Now for BIG @))* (that is 2008 when accidentally holding down shift) I plan to add a few more posts of thoughtless meanderings like this one, notes on things I like/dislike, and an occasional captain's log.

This year I spent a good amount of time at Vicki's where I feed and take care of her horses. I also raise three twiner kittens or I guess that would be triplet kittens, and I am always working on a new project.

This summer Amanda and I spend many a day tilling the earth and even built a garden and grew all kinds of veggies. In fact a lot of notable things went down, I was bucked pretty good by one of the horses, we found the strangest creature living in the pipes, I went skimbording in the pasture on irrigation day, had countless pick nicks, got the riding lawn mower stuck and eventually broke it and that sums up about a week.

Vicki confessed to me that her goal was to create the perfect working situation as part of her personal experiment. I must say she did it. There has never been a day when I did not look forward to going out to the River Bottom Ranch to find out what the next project would be. I never once felt like I worked for Vicki but rather with Vicki. So many days were filled with discussions on any topic that was on our minds, every day was therapeutic in so many ways.

One day this fall Vicki suggested that I help plan a birthday party for her grandsons 16th. I had a vision for a pinata, so Amanda and I went to work. 2.5 days later. . .

Vicki got sick and missed the party so I threw this quick video together so I could show her the calculated demise of our creation.

So My Bedroom Has Been An On Going Project Of Mine So This Blog Is A Way For Me To Show How It All Came To Pass

When I moved to Provo I was lucky enough to live in a rad house with three great friends. The Only Bad Part is that I was the last to move in and unfortunately got the last of the litter when it came to room choice. Every other room in the house is huge and nice but the room I got had orange shag carpet and nasty greenish wall paper from the 60's. But by far the worst part was the strange moldy smell that permeated from the room.

So I decided not to move into the room. Instead I got permission from my landlord to spend time fixing up the room on his dime. I was cool with that so I made my home on the LovSacs in the living room for the following two months.

So I had to tear down the wall paper and it actually came off easy. How ever it left a rough glue layer. To get that stuff off I had to heat up a pot of boiling water and then use the steaming hot water to srub the walls. It took about a half hour to do a three foot square. This took the longest of all stepts in this project, about three weeks because I could only work in my spare time. You will notice the yellow gloves that became my good friends.

Okay here is the thing when I ripped down the wall paper and took major chunks of wall sometimes even the cement came out. So I had to replaster a good part of the wall. Every spot you see white I had to do major work.

When I first put a piece of carpet down I was nervous because all of the sudden with the walls blue the carpet looked brown not gray. But after consulting all my roommates and a lot of other people I decided to take a leap of faith and have it installed anyway. Low and behold once it was all in it looked great! Nice and grey.

for my bedroom

My bed is two twins combined to form the "Lov-Continent"

I had a total of four screens set up to watch movies.

I left one wall white just for this reason, a projector screen flashes a 5x6 foot image on the far wall.
Another T.V. is up in my highest cabinet the other is on a stand by my door and the last screen is my monitor on my lab top, the system that powers the magic. All play the movies or whatever simotainiously. Yes it is a dream come true.

A total of 26 people came to the spur-of-the-moment open room, grape juice was served. It was a huge success
